struggling. Nevertheless, I think those are merely hardware. The software, which is also
determinative, is that who has the courage to gamble in a brandnew but potential industry.
Gambling is, in my eyes, more than putting the stake on the
betting table, but rather wagering lifetime on accomplishing the career.
Yang Lan, host of an interview programme on Phoenix satellite
television, did throw away the television job that made her a household name in urban
China for an unpaid post in a company. She made up her mind to enter a risky new field to
head an Internet start-up venture. Moreover, she and her husband, Bruno Wu Zheng, a former
executive at television broadcaster ATV, are investing more than $40 million of their own
money in turning a listed construction company into an Internet broadcasting portal.
Didn't they know they win for sure? No, of course not. But they have confidence and a
long-term foresight. Without some gambling, their world will lose much color.
Let's see another example: Lee Ka-shing, a famous entrepreneur,
carves out his new business in spite of high salary. Giving up a stable-paying job, he
sought a new sky where he could give full play to his ability and wisdom. Ultimately, he
fulfilled his great ambition after cherishing it for a long time. People need bet
sometime, especially in the crucial moment. Gambling is definitely needed to challenge
people's daring mind and unique foresight.
We have a lot of cases in the real life. Bill Gates gave up the degree which is considered
to be precious in many Americans' opinion. He bet he could make money without the degree.
As a result, His choice was proved correctly. You see, the president of U.S.A.today, the
most popular newspaper in USA, said that if one didn't fail once before 30 years old, he
couldn't be successful in the career. The higher ambition you hold, the heavier you
fell, and the more chances you will get. When you see people didn't see, think people
didn't think, you will be able to do people dare not do. Probably it's venturesome,
however, success will stick to you always.
The spirit of gambling is deserved to be encouraged not
only at present but also in the future. Modern society need more and more people who have
daring ideas and act fearlessly. If everybody lacks courage to take risks, this lonely
planet will become lifeless and inanimate. One word, routinism keeps society from
progressing, why not arouse a healthy and risky competition.
